General Body structure:
  1. Explore the type of symmetry that each organism has.
The Pig is Bilateral - this is when you can cut the organism in half or down the middle and the two halves are exactly alike.
The Starfish is Radial- when an animal has a top or bottom side. If you were to cut the organism into different pieces, then they would be similar, or pretty much alike
The Crayfish is Bilateral- this is when you can cut the organism in half or down the middle and the two halves are exactly alike.
  1. Label a picture of the organism with these terms: anterior, posterior, dorsal, ventral, lateral, head, thorax, abdomen.

  1. What is the advantage of various structures found on the body such as appendages, mouth parts, sensory antennae, skin receptors, etc. Discuss all the different types of receptors.
There are many uses for the body parts on different organisms. They can use different body parts for different things, just like us. Appendages are like our arms, or limbs that extend from their body. These make the pigs be able to walk, the crayfish to crawl and catch food with its claws, and the starfish to suction to anything. Mouth parts are very important because it is one of its main sources to living, they have to eat to live, so therefore the mouth is extremely important. One mouth part that is quite important is the taste buds. If the animal cant taste what it is eating, how does it know if it is food or not? It wont. If it eats something that can hurt them, they will die. The sensory antennae can help organisms sense where, food, rocks, or any obstacles are. They can tell if something is coming after them or if they are going to run into anything by feeling the senses on their antennae. Skin receptors are basically senses on the pig. Just like us, it makes it able to feel things like heat and cold. These senses makes it able to find a warm place to sleep, or to be able to feel for water to either cool them off or to drink if they are thirsty. Most parts on all organisms serve a purpose and are important to their health and living.
